It is funny how things happen.
On Saturday, 17 August 2013, I was working at Marianist Galleries. An interior designer who knows Br. Mel comes in. She is there to meet a couple from her church who she is helping pick out art for their new home. The couple arrives, I tell them a bit about the gallery and invite them to look around and just, “yell if they need anything.” I get to work on my own work when gallery sitting on Saturdays.
A few minutes later, they have a question: “Does Br. Mel ever do commissions?”
“He sure does,” I said. They had picked out three samples of little watercolors I had in the card rack with the colors they like. I got to say, “Those are my watercolors!”
So this nice couple commissioned me to do a large acrylic abstract painting for their new home. The final size is to be 36″ x 36″.
Nothing like a commission to get me going on something. So, I have been doing a few paintings to get myself warmed up. Here is the first one using the colors they like. This got me on to a series with other colors.
I am tagging this week-long series “abz contemporary holy spirit art.” During the process of making them — from beginning to end — the holy spirit takes over as I have very little idea what I am doing.
The interior designer came in and she is sure they would like less orange in the final piece. More to come as the story continues…
