This past weekend, while on retreat, I was eating my cereal and looking out the window at the bird feeder. Along came a woodpecker with a bright red head and a beautiful black and white speckled coat. I was marveling how this bird stood out in the midst of the drab surroundings. Someone else spotted him too. In no time a hawk swooped down and brought the beautiful bird to the ground. I banged on the window and the hawk flew away with the red headed woodpecker. Here is an iPad drawing to try to recapture the beautiful design.
